Lil Durk Timeline

Late in 2012, social and personal issues between Durk and Chief Keef’s label, Glo Gang, started to arise after they signed with Def Jam Recordings and Interscope Records, two of Universal Music’s sister labels. Following a discussion on social media, Durk cut ties with Keef’s label. Then came a wave of diss tracks, including one specifically for Durk, who had remixed Nicki Minaj’s “Chiraq” alongside Meek Mill and Shy Glizzy. He mentions King L, Tyga, Lil Reese, The Game, and the Gangster Disciples in addition to calling out Chief Keef. Even so, he labels Keef’s rejection of their friendship in favour of Tyga and The Game’s remix of “Chiraq” as “disrespectful.”

Durk shouted out the group in support of Keef in order to humiliate him during their at-the-time ongoing feud with the rap group Migos. But in August 2014, as Keef was about to lose his Interscope record deal, Durk made the decision to patch things up and end the feud.

2014 saw the start of Durk’s beef with California rappers The Game and Tyga after they dropped their “Chiraq to L.A.” remix of Nicki Minaj’s “Chiraq.” Along with Durk, 40 Glocc, Compton Menace, and Waka Flocka Flame were also singled out for criticism. This prompted Durk and The Game to engage in tense social interactions. Durk went to boast sexually about having an affair with Game’s ex-fiancée, Tiffney Cambridge, after threatening to “holla” at Tyga.

But as a result, Game would have to respond with “Bigger than Me,” in which he calls out Durk, 40 Glocc, the 2014 XXL Freshman Class, and a plethora of other people. Durk ended his disputes with Game and Tyga eight months later, respectively.

On March 29, 2018, Durk announced the release of his first mixtape for digital retail, Just Cause Y’all Waited, and his twelfth mixtape, which would be released the following day by midnight. At the same time, he revealed that he had “quarantined” his contract with Def Jam Recordings and wished the label luck. After leaving Def Jam, Durk released Just Cause Y’all Waited exclusively on Apple Music and the iTunes Store the following day.

Since then, Just Cause Y’all Waited has been accessible via download or streaming on other websites. After peaking at numbers 57 on the Billboard 200, twenty-eight on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and twenty-two on the Rap Albums chart, the mixtape has since become Durk’s first non-album project to do so.

Durk announced on July 27th, 2018, that he had signed to Alamo Records and Interscope Records. On November 9th, 2018, Alamo/Interscope released Durk’s third studio album, Signed to the Streets 3. On August 2, 2019, Lil Durk’s fourth studio album, Love Songs 4 the Streets 2, was made available. It is a follow-up to his mixtape of the same name from 2017.

21 Savage, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, King Von, Meek Mill, and Nicki Minaj all make cameos on it. On the American Billboard 200, the album peaked at number four. On May 8, 2020, his fifth album, Just Cause Y’all Waited 2, was released. The Billboard 200 charted it at number five in its debut.

Durk released a number of mixtapes throughout the course of 2017: Love Songs for the Streets in February, Supa Vultures, a joint project with Lil Reese in August, Signed to the Streets 2.5 in October, and Bloodas, a joint project with Tee Grizzley in December.

On July 22, 2016, Lil Durk issued his second studio album, titled Lil Durk 2X. The album’s lead single, “She Just Wanna,” with Ty Dolla $ign, was previously released by the artist in May. The album’s other follow-up singles are “True” and “Money Walk,” which both feature Yo Gotti. Unfortunately, the album fell short of the expectations set by his previous album, Remember My Name, which peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200.

The RIAA granted gold certification to Durk’s single “Like Me” from his debut studio album, Remember My Name, on December 7, 2016.

When he was arrested on felony gun charges on August 19, 2016, the charges against him for violating probation were dropped by the judge.

Durk and Famous Dex went to Paul Robeson High School together when they were teenagers, but after they both dropped out, they seemed to lose touch. But as soon as Durk rose to fame, Dex immediately admitted in an interview that he had not seen him in his later years. It wasn’t until the 2016 BET Awards that they were finally able to meet. Durk acknowledged that his relationship with Dex was still “rockin’.” Lil’ Mister, a musician, also claimed that a joint project between the two rappers was in the works.

In the spring of 2016, Tay600 was expelled from his gang set, The Team 600, and he was also dropped from Only the Family after he was accused of testifying as an eyewitness against fellow Black Disciples RondoNumbaNine, CDai, and DRose 600 in their murder trials. However, Tay600 denied “snitching” on his former friends and placed the blame for the entire incident on Durk. Durk responded by releasing a mixtape called The Truth in February of that year and a music video for his song “Pressure.”

Durk released a remix to Meek Mill’s “We Ball” with Tay’s former friend, Booka600, after criticising Tay600 live. Tay600 responded with his own remix of “We Ball,” calling Durk’s group Only the Family “fags,” indignant that his ex-friend had worked with a rival. Later in September 2017, after Tay600 criticised his former gang members for failing to assist him, the feud reappeared. Additionally, he boasted about having a brief sexual relationship with the mother of two of Durk’s three kids.

Just days before the release of his fourth studio album, 4 Your Eyez Only, on December 9, 2016, Durk found himself at the centre of controversy after J. Cole’s song “Everybody Dies” was made public in late November.

Many people speculated that the song’s lyric, “Lil whatever/Just another short bus rapper/Fake drug dealers turned tour bus trappers,” was directed at Durk, Lil Yachty, and Lil Uzi Vert. Since neither Durk nor Cole responded to the track or to one another, it is unclear whether it is a diss or the other way around.
