Smith announced on February 13, 2020, that a third studio album, To Die For, would be released on May 1, 2020. Smith announced on March 30 that, due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, they would be delaying the release of their third album and making a number of changes to the album track list and title as they worked on it. They did, however, state that it would be released sometime in 2020. “I’m Ready,” a collaboration with American singer Demi Lovato, was released on April 16 and charted well in several countries’ top 40. Smith released their cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You” on July 6.

They first performed the song for the iHeartRadio Living Room Series in May. On September 17, they released a new single, “Diamonds,” as well as the title of their third album, Love Goes, which was released on October 30.
