Meek Mill History

Three kids are born to Mill. On the rapper’s 33rd birthday in 2020, Mill’s girlfriend Milan Rouge gave birth to his third child and her first.

2019
On July 24, 2019, the Superior Court of Pennsylvania upheld Mill’s appeal, vacating his conviction from 2008 and directing that a new trial be conducted under the supervision of a different judge than Judge Brinkley. The district attorney’s office in Philadelphia expressed its satisfaction in a statement, saying that the appeals court “validated our position that Robert Rihmeek Williams deserves a new trial before a court that has no appearance of partiality.” The D.A. chose not to comment on its intentions for a new trial, saying the office was considering all of its options.

A docuseries called Free Meek debuted on Prime Video on August 9, 2019.

Roc Nation produced the five-part series, and Jay-Z and Mill served as executive producers.

Meek Mill attempted to attend a concert at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in May 2019, but was refused entry. Joe Tacopina, the man’s attorney, claimed that Mill was turned away due to his race. Mill declared on May 25, 2019, that he intended to file a lawsuit against the hotel for racial discrimination. The Cosmopolitan published the requested apology within a few days. Tacopina then declared that his client had agreed to it and that no legal action would be taken as a result.

2018
Championships, Mill’s fourth album, was announced on November 16, 2018, and it was made available on November 30.

The album debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200 with 229,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week and received favorable reviews from critics (42,000 coming from pure sales).

The officer in Mill’s initial 2007 case came under fire in February 2018 for allegedly handling his arrest improperly. This resulted from a whistleblower’s testimony that led to the exposure of hundreds of other dishonest officers. A petition to overturn Mill’s conviction was filed.

In anticipation of the outcome of the appeal to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Mill was released on April 24, 2018. In his initial 2008 conviction, Brinkley’s arresting officer had credibility issues, according to the Philadelphia district attorney, who requested Brinkley’s release. Brinkley declined and scheduled a hearing in the place of it.

Michael G. Rubin, a minority owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and a steadfast supporter of Mill, flew him in by helicopter to a 76ers game so he could perform a ceremonial bell-ringing on the court hours after his release from prison. Jay-Z and fellow Philadelphian Kevin Hart have offered their support to Mill, who has stated that he wants to use his situation to “shine a light” on the criminal justice system.

Following his release from state custody in 2018, Mill quickly rose to prominence as a leading proponent of criminal justice reform in the United States. With fellow recording artist and businessman Jay-Z, he co-founded the REFORM Alliance Foundation.

According to the nonprofit organization, their goal is “to dramatically reduce the number of people who are unjustly under the control of the criminal justice system – starting with probation and parole.” They intend to achieve this goal by bringing together influential figures from a variety of industries, including business, entertainment, government, sports, technology, and more, who share a passion for supporting criminal justice reform in the United States.

In addition to Meek Mill and Jay-Z, the REFORM Alliance Foundation was founded by Robert Kraft, the CEO of the Kraft Group and owner of the Patriots, Michael G. Rubin, Clara Wu Tsai, the co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets, and Robert F. Smith, the founder of Vista Equity Partners. As of 2019, these founding partners had collectively committed $50 million to the foundation. Political activist, CNN host, and political analyst Van Jones was chosen by REFORM to serve as their first CEO.

The conflict was finally put an end in 2018 after Mill was released from prison. In Mill’s post-incarceration album Championships, Drake is a featured artist.

2017
He was released from the State Correctional Institution – Chester in Chester, Pennsylvania after serving five months of a two to four year prison sentence for violating his parole in November 2017. His trial is still pending. Free Meek, a documentary series about his conflict with the legal system, debuted on Prime Video in August 2019. The series’ executive producer was Mill.

Wins & Losses, Mill’s third studio album, was made available on July 21, 2017.

For assaulting two pedestrians, Mill was detained on March 11, 2017, at a St. Louis, Missouri, airport. He received a court summons soon after his arrest and court appearance.

Both a remix of “Back to Back” by his rival Drake and a remix of “I’m the Plug” by Drake and Future were intended for the mixtape, but since DC4 was made available for purchase, neither of these two remixes made the cut. Meek Mill released four songs on his extended play, 4/4, on January 16, 2016. Meek Mill published the extended play 4/4, Pt. 2 on January 30, 2016. Meek Mill donated 60,000 water bottles for the Flint Water Crisis at a cost of $50,000. In the latter part of August 2018, Mill gave 6000 backpacks to Philadelphia students.

The buzz single for Drake’s fourth studio album, Views, “Summer Sixteen,” which is a diss track directed at Mill, was released on January 30, 2016. A response track called “War Pain,” co-written by Mill and labelmate Omelly, was released less than fifteen minutes later. The song makes reference to a number of lines from “Summer Sixteen,” including one in which Drake performed “Back to Back” in front of a large hotel crowd while staying there directly above Mill. Four months later, rappers Fabolous and Jadakiss joined Mill in releasing a remix of “All the Way Up” by Fat Joe and Remy Ma. In several lines of the song, Meek specifically mentions Drake, saying things like “If you didn’t write it, don’t record it.”

Additionally, he made a suggestion that he was dating Rihanna, Drake’s on-again, off-again love interest. Burger King and Whataburger, respectively, supported Meek Mill and Drake for their beef.

The Game’s five-minute freestyle, “92 Bars,” which was made public on September 16, 2016, was widely believed to be a jab at Meek Mill. Previously, Mill and Game worked together on “The Soundtrack” from 2015. After “92 Bars” was released, Game acknowledged that the freestyle was specifically directed at Mill. The following day, the two rappers got into an Instagram argument, with The Game accusing Meek Mill of telling the police about a robbery involving Sean Kingston while also allegedly cyber-flirting with Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill’s girlfriend.

On September 18, Meek Mill dropped “OOOUUU,” a Young M.A. remix featuring Omelly and Beanie Sigel, as a diss track directed at Game. The Game responded two days later with “Pest Control,” using the same beat and taking potshots at Sean Kingston, Meek Mill, Omelly, and Beanie Sigel. Following Mill’s imprisonment and subsequent release from prison in 2018, the two made up.

On September 26, 2016, Meek Mill and fellow Philadelphia rapper Beanie Sigel got into a fight after the latter made fun of the former’s intelligence in a radio interview. After the interview, Sigel received a punch to the back of his head from a person who was allegedly associated with Meek Mill. Three days later, Mill attacked Sigel on Instagram with numerous insulting comments.

He was given a two- to four-year prison term on November 6, 2017, for breaking the terms of his parole.

The family of Jaquan Graves, who was shot and killed in the parking lot outside a Connecticut concert in December 2016, filed a lawsuit against Meek Mill and Roc Nation on November 29, 2017. When the shooting began, Graves had just left the building and was killed. The lawsuit also asserts that after “thugs” displayed disorderly, disruptive, argumentative, angry, and agitated behaviors toward customers, Mill and Roc Nation still permitted them to remain on the property.

Meek Mill previewed music for his mixtape, DC4, in six videos on Instagram in 2016.
